National Green Jobs Corps - starting early February 2010
WCET has received funding for a National Green Jobs Corps project.
The project is the establishment of a bush regeneration program along a 1km stretch of Lake Illawarra Foreshore located at Hooka Point in Berkeley.
Job Seekers (aged 17-24) will be be involved in regenerating the habitat of the walking track including:
> bush regeneration and planting natives trees;
> beach and dune rehabilitation;
> protecting the wildlife and fish habitat;
> constructing and restoring parts of the track;
> protect local plants through the establishment of a local seed bank;
> create a Bush Tucker Trail.
You will also learn environmental strategies:
> training and hands-on experience in the installation of energy efficiencies designed to reduce carbon emissions;
> erosion control;
> developing community information and education products;
> flora, fauna and land surveys and audits;
> biodiversity monitoring;
> community consultation and surveys relating to the environment;
> activities to care for the natural environment and cultural heritage.
