Field Trip
November 21 to 23 Oberon.
Oberon on Friday was a beautiful sunny, warm day, just right for fossicking. A pity it did not stay that way all weekend. Saturday the weather turned cold and wet with the odd flurries of snow, sleet, hail, rain and mist all intermittent with brilliant sunshine – weird we were near Oberon not Melbourne and in the last week of spring. Saturday night it was COLD and waking up to 2 inches of snow everywhere was enough for most who packed up and went home – some had a snowball fight but no one volunteered to have a carrot nose. Ah well there is next time, maybe the weather will be kinder, the scenery was certainly good. A twitcher (bird watcher) would have had a field day in the Forrest, several types of small birds were seen and an Emu, Wallaby and Fox. Oh how did the fossicking go? A few small Sapphire, zircon and possible diamond crystals were found by some of the members. Some members also went to the Blue Hill quarry and managed to find smoky quartz.
Sunday 5th Oct – Members visited Goulburn for the Gemkana at the showground Braidwood Rd.
17 to 19 Oct – 7 members fossicked at Muttama for Quartz – some nice specimens found.
