history

The Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation (IAC) has been working within the Illawarra community for 26 years. It was founded in 1980 by a group of Aboriginal women who wanted a place to work and assist their community. Before a building was found, kangamembers would meet in each other’s homes. The department of Aboriginal Affairs eventually supplied money to purchase a community centre. The current IAC building was officially opened by Mr. Fred Moore on the 9th of August, 2002.
