History

As a result of art arena gallery’s studio being closed down in Wollongong, Barracks Artists studio opened in Thirroul NSW Australia.
'The Barracks' Artists Studio is occupied and managed by 5 visual artists.

Barracks Artists studio group first met in December 1996 and became incorporated in December 1997

The studio became available from February 1998. The first open day for Thirroul Seaside and Arts festival was in 1998.

The artist in residence programme started soon after this.

A small grant from cultural services, Wollongong City Council helped the studio to cover set up costs. The studio is now self funded.
